Our AZ Republican Party 2020
YEAR IN REVIEW
Putting the year in perspective.
It’s been quite the year, hasn’t it? While we certainly can celebrate keeping our Republican majorities in the Arizona House and Senate, the re-election of our Congressional Delegation, our victories on the Corporation Commission, and some key local offices, our Republican Party in Arizona is in need of new leadership.
Ten years ago, Arizona was a shining Red State, a state we as Republicans were proud to call "ours". Today, we can no longer make that claim. Have we lost everything? No, but unless we change course, we will soon.
We need leadership that isn't focused on their own interests and agenda, but the health and vitality of the AZGOP. That's why I'm running for Chairman of the Republican Party of Arizona.
We need an organization with a real business plan and a strategic message that speaks to voters across the state. We need to hire the best staff possible, use the latest campaign technologies, bring donors back into the fold, recruit and train the best candidates, and provide a seat at the table for everyone in our Party who wants to be involved. Let's recognize and use the talent within our Party: our Executive Committee, our County and LD organizations, our State Committeemen, our PCs and our elected representatives.
It's time to roll up our sleeves and get to work. Let's take a hard look at what went right and what went wrong in 2020. We need to retool our Party with a focus on grass roots organization and take the fight to the Democrats.
That's how you win elections.
I will ensure that everyone who wants to be involved will have a seat at the table.
During the last several years, the centralized power of the Chairman's post has only grown, to the extent that the Executive Committee, and other talented individuals in our Party have been largely excluded from participation. As Republicans, we don't support big centralized government, and we shouldn't accept centralized power in the Chairman's office with just a handful of individuals making major decisions for the AZGOP without including all of us. That hasn't worked for us in the past, and we all know what the lack of communication and coordination has done to our Party. As your Chairman, I pledge that everyone, and I mean everyone, will have a seat at the table.
We need a business plan and a strategic message that speaks to Arizona voters.
Campaigns aren't won by tweets, rallies and patting ourselves on the back. They're won by hard work, planning and strategic messaging, using the best data, registering and canvassing voters, building our field team and donor base, reaching out to independents and minority groups, and finding and supporting the best candidates possible. That not only goes for elections at the state and federal level, but the local level as well. School Boards and city and local offices are where our next generation of Republican leaders will come from. The days of losing a Mayor's race in a city like Scottsdale where we have a nearly 2-1 Republican registration advantage has to end.
I will make winning elections the priority.
We should be the the leader of the Republican family here in Arizona. Unfortunately, the AZGOP is often viewed as an afterthought rather than a contributing partner or a professional organization. Millions of dollars passed through the AZGOP courtesy of the Republican National Committee and the Trump Campaign. But we didn't get the job done. We could have done much more to win the U.S. Senate race and to ensure the re-election of President Trump. The Democrats proved smarter, faster, and more organized than us in 2020, outraising us 8-1 in Arizona-based contributions. And we let them steal the Presidential election from us as well. We saw it before when Martha McSally lost her lead to Kristen Sinema and when Steve Gaynor lost his lead to Katie Hobbs. We had two years to prepare for another election debacle. We can't make the same mistake again in 2022. Election reform starts now by working with with our elected officials and passing legislation that protects the integrity of our elections.
I want to work with, support and grow our local organizations.
We have outstanding individuals throughout our Party who are true American Patriots. They work at the grassroots level, giving their time and energy to register and canvass and organize, and they better than anyone know their communities. But we can't let them go it alone any longer. It's time to invest in the individuals who make our Party work. We need to refocus our efforts to work with, support and raise funds with our LD and County organizations and dramatically increase the number of PCs. As your Chairman, I pledge a return to our grass roots and to re-energize our ground game by putting money and resources where it's needed most, at the local level.
But wait, there’s more.
Your opinion and ideas are important to me.
There is an Arizona spirit that exists within all Arizonans. We believe in God, Family, and we love our Country. We treasure individual freedom, liberty and free choice. This can be preserved in Arizona only if we understand that we must work together if we are to achieve victory.
I am asking for your support in correcting our course and achieving success. Please reach out to me and let's talk.
